This rally became a lighthouse for eccentric adventurers to ride custom vehicles on the terrain, lured by the romance and extreme challenges of the desert. It quickly became a victim of its own rapid success. In 2008, this incredible event came to an end in Africa due to terrorism, sparking controversy and resulting in over 60 deaths.
